Welcome to the Paul Ranch!! My name is David Paul and I am the oldest son of Daniel and Tresa Paul. We, along with my wife Reagan and my 5 younger siblings, operate the Paul Ranch and Wild Prairie Beef.
I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood than growing up on a ranch. There were thousands of acres to play on and explore, horses to ride, and lots of work we were able to do together as a family. A lot has changed since I was a kid, but a lot has stayed the same as well. We invite you to ride along with us through the ups and downs of our day-to day lives on the ranch. There is always plenty to do and see, and we hope you will enjoy getting a taste of life here on the Wild Prairie.
Before we go any further, let’s meet the crew!
Daniel and Tresa Paul (known as Dad and Mom to us) have both been involved in cattle ranching their whole lives. They moved to the ranch we now live in 1995, shortly after giving birth to me. Dad is a great cattleman and an even better father. All us kids have learned how to work hard and do whatever you are doing with all your heart by watching Dad work. Mom is also an amazing mother! She is an awesome cook, a great horseman, and has taken good care of Dad all while homeschooling her children. I don’t think you could ask for better parents.
Me (David) and my wife Reagan are now back on the home ranch after working other jobs for several years. During my growing up years, I enjoyed being outside helping Dad, hunting, playing football, and getting into trouble alongside my brother Denver. I attended high-school at Sunshine Bible Academy, a christian boarding school near Miller, SD. It was during my time there that I met Reagan. Reagan came to Sunshine Bible her sophomore year. She grew up as the oldest of four siblings, very similar to me. She enjoyed helping her dad around the farm, showing cattle, competing in 4-H, and playing basketball. When she came to Sunshine, it wasn’t long before we became friends. We had a lot in common, and enjoyed spending time together (plus she was extremely good looking). We fell in love, and were married a year after we graduated from high-school. After we were married, we moved several times and worked a number of different jobs. In 2018, we moved back to the ranch to help Dad and grow our own cow herd. I now help in the management, as well as the day-to-day operations of the ranch. Reagan is our marketing guru, and likes to help with the cows in her spare time.
Denver has always had a love of cattle and the outdoors. When we were young, Denver was always thinking of ways he could better care for the cow he bought from Dad, while I was trying to convince him to come play with me! Denver is a deep thinker, and is always coming up with clever and humorous philosophies about life. He is a hard worker, but he can play just as hard as he works. Denver also attended Sunshine Bible Academy for his high-school years. He enjoyed playing sports and doing projects in shop class. After he graduated, Denver spent a year at home helping Dad, then went on to collage where he is studying to become a diesel mechanic. Although he is in school, Denvers mind often strays back to the ranch. He visits home often, and is a joy to work with when he is here. We hope that one day he will be able to move back to the ranch as well.
Victoria is the oldest daughter on the ranch. Growing up she was very much a tomboy, and did her best do follow Denver and I everywhere we went. She has always had a love for horses, and has raised and trained several of them. Victoria is currently a senior at Sunshine Bible Academy, and has enjoyed playing volleyball as well as singing in the choir and performing in the school plays. Summers and weekends when she is home, Victoria is sought after by both Mom and Dad for help. She is an excellent cook and seamstress, but is just as handy in the hay field or in the sorting pen. Victoria is dedicated and hard working. We love having her smiling face and cheerful attitude present whenever we are working.
Aja Leigh sure is a lot of fun! Ever since she was little, she has loved to laugh and have a good time. Aja is the oldest of our adopted siblings, and we cant imagine life without her! She keeps things interesting with her big smile and contagious laugh! She is also a very empathetic person, and is good to have around when you are not feeling well. Aja enjoys being outside and working with her cows (some of which are milk cows). She loves to cook, and is probably the most creative chef on the ranch! Aja is a Freshman at Sunshine Bible Academy this year, and has enjoyed meeting new friends, and playing all the sports she can!
TJ is our ranch scientist and resident football expert! He is loves to read and is a sponge for facts about almost everything. He also loves to draw, and has a very good eye for artistic detail. TJ is our second adopted sibling, and has been a great addition to our family. He keeps our brains sharp, as he is always asking questions about the way things work. He is very much and intellectual, but is still excellent help outside. He also has a great eye for cattle, and is a fun person to check cows with. TJ is in the 6th grade, and can be found reading, practicing his football skills when he is not in school. He loves the Denver Broncos (and knows everything about them), and is hoping to play for them one day!
Cherish is the youngest (and thusly the most spoiled) of the siblings. She takes full advantage of this, and is able to avoid a lot of the responsibilities the rest of us kids were expected to do at that age… oh well! All that aside, Cherish is a fun and happy little girl. She keeps us entertained with her cute one liners and her sass! She LOVES all animals… except for cows (she says they waste too much time). We suspect that she will become a small animal vet one day. Cherish is in the 3rd grade, and does well at school. When she is not in school, Cherish can be found outside playing with her cats, or Chief and Beulah, our two Collie dogs.
Well, that’s our crew! We sure enjoyed meeting you, and would love to hear from you anytime if you have any questions, or would like to come and tour the ranch! We hope you will continue to follow along, as we share our experiences and adventures from ranching on the Wild Prairie!
